Meet Stéphanie

Stéphanie Gauvin was born in Québec, Canada and has had a passion for illustration since a young age, which was nurtured by her family and teachers. She obtained a Fine Arts degree in 1989 and, being an avid skier, followed her adventurous spirit to the mountains of Canada's west coast where she settled into the charming mountain town of Rossland B.C. and started a family.

Focusing on acrylic painting, Gauvin's work reflects her love for the outdoors. Her use of bold composition, exciting colour choices, and warm tones characterize her self-taught style. After painting professionally for over 20 years, Stéphanie has become a well-established Canadian artist and has been a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA).

Stéphanie operates her own commercial gallery space in Rossland BC in addition to being represented in galleries across Canada, such as Aven's Gallery in Canmore, AB , Hambleton Gallery in Kelowna, B.C. and Galerie Iris in Québec. Stéphanie continues to learn from mentors and her personal process, constantly seeking new locations for inspiration and the "woah!" factor that makes her paintings speak for themselves.

Artist Statement

My work is my play; my ego made visible. As I view the world with a child’s eye, paint is the chosen medium of my expression and feeds my spirit with a sense of accomplishment and integrity.

My goal is to translate the excitement I feel about life, into a tangible visual art piece. Whether I am working from photographs in my studio or painting out in nature, I illuminate the scenes with a bold exciting palette.

I strive for spontaneity in my brush strokes, skilled gradations and color vibration, looking to spark a feeling rather than perfection in the details.

When a piece is evolving well, I feel a sense of giddiness, as if my brush is a magic wand...it’s pure delight!

I have been consistently learning, evolving, and channeling my love for painting. Regularly attending workshops lead by prominent and inspiring artists always leave me feeling greatly energized by the process. As I continue in my career, I am intuitively following my creative path which has helped me realize that it is a lifelong commitment.
